The Changdeok palace of Joseon Dynasty is a special place that was loved by many kings.
The Changdeok Palace, in Seoul , the capital of Korea, is one of the most famous palaces along with some other palaces in Korea. The construction of the palace began in 1405. The gross area of garden was enlarged about 120,000 square meters in 1463. However, the palace was burnt several times and some places were rebuilt repeatedly. Nevertheless, the palace is the most preserved original shape among existing palaces of Joseon Dynasty(1392-1910) in Korea.
The palace was used when the kings couldn't use the official palace because war or disaster occurred. However, historically the kings loved the Changdeok Palace more than the official palace. And actually the kings stayed a longer time in Changdeok Palace than the official palace.
The biggest reason many kings loved the Changdeok Palace was the beauty of Biwon(back garden). Biwon consisted of various pavilions, ponds, almost 32 kinds of trees, stones and rocks. The palace never ruined nature and the harmony of the buildings and nature was really stunning.
So the palace was registered as UNESCO(United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in February 1997 because the harmonic arrangement of the buildings and nature was excellent.
